I started doing simulation with a custom program to estimate the temperature in telephone enclosures using passive cooling in the late 1980s. After that, I started using DOE-2.1 for parametric analysis, as well as a user interface (BCHP Screening Tool). When EnergyPlus was still in beta, I wrote EP-Launch and IDF Editor and have since written some of the other utilities as well as the tabular reporting, utility rate, and life-cycle costing portions of EnergyPlus. I finished an ASHRAE project using EnergyPlus to estimate the usage of future ultra-low energy use buildings. I also started the BLDG-SIM mailing list in 1999 and manage the mailing lists at onebuilding.org, which have transitioned to a forum. I am a past chair for both the 90.1 Energy Cost Budget subcommittee, which is responsible for Appendix G, as well as SSPC 209 Building Performance Simulation Process.
