2016-04-12 18:02:06 -0500 marked best answer heating and cooling energy consumption

Hi,

I have setting an energy model with Open Studio. I have not consider HVAC system, so I have only ideal air load. I would like to know electric consumption for heating and cooling.

after the simulation, within "results summary" label, there are some table about energy consumption for lighting and equipment but nothing for heating and cooling. Why? How do I set the ideal HVAC

2016-04-12 18:02:05 -0500 marked best answer Draw and set an Overhang.

Hi, I have created (in sketchup) a shading surface group , one per each external surface ,on the external windows.

I would like that this surfaces becomes an overhang. But in OS i see only a group of surfaces, i need an object.

How can I do? Do I have to use energy+?

Thanks A.

2016-04-12 18:02:03 -0500 marked best answer printed handbook

hi, to build an energy model with OS there are a lot of setting to consider. It is very hard to check all the settings when you don't know the definitions for each of them.

Is an OpenStudio handbook available? I need to know and understand the meaning of the setting in the software.

thank you

2016-04-12 18:02:01 -0500 marked best answer How do you do to create a .rvi file ?

I am using openstudio (1.5) to draw up an .idf file that I will use in JEPlus (for a parametric design).

I need an rvi file. It would be created by ReadVarEso program (distributed with E+) but I don't understand how it works?

How can I launch ReadVarEso program?

Where is the rvi file stored?

2015-05-21 10:56:27 -0500 marked best answer open studio _ schedule

Hi. I need a manual or guidelines to set schedule in open studio.

There are many sentences about which I would like to know the definition or the reference. For example: which is the definition of " large office" ? and again, what does "189.1-2009 office breakroom CZ1 - 3 schedule set" mean? is "189.1-2009" the reference low? What does "CZ1 - 3 " mean?

So, I need something that can help me to understand how setting openstudio. Ho cercato nel sito web Openstudio, ma ho trovato solo un breve tutorial.

can you help me?

Thans for your answers

Hi Benjamin,

Which is the reference standard for "midrise apartment aschedules! within the last version of OpenStudio (1.7)? I am looking for them in the ASHRAE 189,1 2009 but I can´t find . Thanks A.

Thanks for the reply.

I would like enable the natural ventilation when the external temperature reaches a certain value: Summer: I have to open the window when the outside temperature is lower then 26ºC Winter : I have to open the window when the outside temperature is upper then 18ºC

Within the "Schedule Type" list, I have selected "temperature". is it the external temperature? Do I have apply it to the "operable window"

Thanks A.

2015-05-21 03:56:01 -0500 answered a question Ideal Load Air system and primary energy

"Primary energy is an energy form found in nature that has not been subjected to any conversion or transformation process. It is energy contained in raw fuels, and other forms of energy received as input to a system. Primary energy can be non-renewable or renewable. Primary energy sources are transformed in energy conversion processes to more convenient forms of energy (that can directly be used by society), such as electrical energy" (wikipedia)

Then, If I use ideal air load, are "District heating and cooling consumptions" in term of electrical energy ?

Thanks Best A.

thanks these are the results that i can see. C:\fakepath\Untitled.png

the values within the last table are all zero. Why? are there no "unmet hours" ? is it possible I have forgot some settings?

2015-05-12 09:34:13 -0500 asked a question Ideal Load Air system and primary energy

I have modeled a study case using ideal load air system, because I would like to evaluate just the energy performance of the building.

If I use ideal air load are "District heating and cooling consumptions" in term of electrical energy, or are they as primary energy?

2015-05-12 04:29:51 -0500 asked a question Comfort Analysis

I would like to evaluate the indoor comfort with OpenStudio. In particular I should evaluate the PMV index and the discomfort hrs (unmet load hours).

Is It possible with OpenStudio? Or do I have to use EnergyPlus? How should I do it?

2015-05-12 04:15:38 -0500 asked a question Setting a new schedule type

Hallo all,

I would like to set an "outdoor air flow rate fraction schedule" based on the outside temperature. The purpose is to enable the natural ventilation when the external temperature reaches a certain value. Then I need to have two different schedules, for winter and summer.

In the schedule label, I can add a new object. Then, I have to select the schedule type and I should select temperature. Is It internal or external temperature?

Is there some other parameter/schedule that I have to set? Thanks A.

2015-03-24 09:58:21 -0500 asked a question Which is the proper "ZoneInfiltration:DesignFlowRate" value, with ideal air loads?

I am setting two models without HVAC system (residential and office). I am using the ideal air load.

  • In your opinion, which is the proper value of space infiltration (in term of ACH) I have to use?
  • With ideal loads is there already mechanical ventilation?
  • Do I have to consider a combination between mechanical ventilation and infiltration?
2015-03-21 05:33:06 -0500 asked a question using OpenStudio with other standards

Dear All I am working on research project about energy consumption in nordic european countries.

OpenStudio uses the standard 189.1-2009 . I would like to use internal loads according to Danish standards.

Could I import other kind of standards / Library?

Thanks A.

2015-03-17 13:00:45 -0500 answered a question How to model different types of shadings in OpenStudio and EnergyPlus

dear all. I have a model with 9 stories and square plane. I wolud like to apply a louvre ( as shading device) for each of the windows. Should I use "Exterior Blind" ? Could I set them in OpenStudio? or should I use energyplus?

Could you tell me how i have to do, please?

thanks

2015-02-05 11:58:36 -0500 commented answer How can I change the unit from kWh to kWh/m2?

the output are: InteriorLights:Electricity InteriorEquipment:Electricity

Heating:DistrictHeating Cooling:DistrictCooling

Could I have the same results in enrgy plus?

2015-02-05 11:39:55 -0500 asked a question How can I change the unit from kWh to kWh/m2?

Dear All, I am working on a large experiment in which I compare several variables. The results of this project show the energy consumption for heating cooling and electrical system. I get the value in kWh but I need to have the results in kWh/m2.

Obviously, I could divide the value for the floor area, but the experiment is very large so I would do it automatically.

Have you suggestion?

Thanks

2015-01-25 03:44:00 -0500 answered a question meaning of the warnings

Hi

I read the following warning message

* Warning * GetSimpleAirModelInputs: ZoneInfiltration:DesignFlowRate="THERMAL ZONE 5 189.1-2009 - OFFICE - WHOLEBUILDING - LG OFFICE - CZ1-3 INFILTRATION 2", Design Flow Rate Calculation Method specifies Flow per Exterior Surface Area, but Exterior Surface Area = 0. 0 Infiltration will result

Within my model , "the thermal zone 5" is a central zone image description

obviously, I have not "exterior surface area", so I don't know how I can have infiltration. what do you suggest me?

2015-01-23 06:10:02 -0500 marked best answer Daylight control

Please, look at the picture attached. Sketchup model

The model has 5 thermal zones. Currently, the 4 external ones have exterior window. The central zone has no window. The sizes of the model are (72 x72) m2 The internal zone has 3900 mq more or less.

I would like to place a daylight controls within the central zone. I would like to calculate the light energy consumption.

The questions are:

  1. For these dimensions how many daylight controls do I have to place?
  2. Do I have to do a division in smaller zones?
  3. To allow the daylight passage through the internal wall, which features do internal walls have? I thought to consider them as a glazed wall. is it right ?

If you have other suggestion for me, please share it

2015-01-23 06:10:01 -0500 commented answer Daylight control

I am sorry, I can't find the "annual tabular results" Please, could you show me where to find it? If I use a daylighting control, do I have to set other parameters in energyplus? thanks
