2015-05-26 12:15:45 -0500 commented answer different values for different runs in openstudio

I have installed EnergyPlus 8.3 in the default folder as well but Openstudio found the one that is installed in the share folder where Openstudio is installed. I even added the one that I installed separately but I received the same error

I installed OpenStudio-1.7.4.4b995c92df-Win64 and the new version of Radiance. but Now when I run the model in OpenStudio application with radiance, I receive this error: failed to run DaylightSim for annual daylight simulation

with the OS 1.6.3 I didn't have this problem for this model: https://www.dropbox.com/s/9ba1p7n5ssv...

2015-05-20 14:39:07 -0500 commented answer problem with downloading OpenStudio and Radiance

I am trying to download "radiance-5.0.a-win64.exe" and "OpenStudio-1.7.3.a3fbc7ed18-Win64.exe" from these links:

https://github.com/NREL/Radiance/rele... https://github.com/NREL/OpenStudio/re... https://www.openstudio.net/developers

but, I receive a network error after a while and the download fails and doesn't complete. Before, I didn't have problem with downloading openstudio or radiance. Now, I have OS 1.6.0 installed on my computer but I want to change it to the latest version. I am located in Iran.

In the OpenStudio Application, First I choose "Fine", and then I press the "Run Simulation" button, but when I go back to the Radiance Parameters, the "Coarse" is selected! So, it means that the "Fine" option isn't mentioned in the simulation with Radiance.

How can I send my model?

2015-05-18 05:01:49 -0500 asked a question different values for different runs in openstudio

I have a simple model with an exterior window. I use Radiance for daylighting simulation. I run the baseline model (North orientation) and different WWR (0.1 to 0.9) with PAT. Every time I run the same model, the values that I receive for "zone lights total heating energy" is different for the same model ! For example it changes from 1465 kWh to 1600 kWh for the WWR=0.1. The other strange thing is that in one run for all the cases from 0.1 to 0.9, the value recieved for the WWR=0.3 is more than the case which the WWR=0.2 which it could not be correct but when I run all the cases again, I recieve other values. what is the reason and how can I be sure which results are correct?

2015-03-27 01:33:37 -0500 commented answer glare sensors and views

I used Openstudio and Radiance as the daylighting engine and used 3 glare sensor for the zone with 8 views per each glare sensor. But, in the GLR file, the results are only for one glare sensor for 8 views and there are no results for the other 2 sensors in the zone.

I have 3 glare sensor and for each sensor, I defined 8 views but in the results, I get the DGPs values only for one of the sensors. Is there any possibility to have the DGPs results for more than one sensor?

2015-03-25 07:01:45 -0500 asked a question daylight autonomy

Hi,

when I run my model with OS and use radiance as the daylighting engine, in the daylighting metrics.csv I have 4727 hours for the whole year, but my model is an office and the working hours are (8am to 5pm). So, the daylight autonomy should be calculated due to these hours. How can I receive the right value for Daylight autonomy and UDI?

2015-02-07 12:58:43 -0500 commented answer openstudio output problem

how can I fix this problem? Which model should I get and take a look from the link you sent?

2015-02-07 11:01:38 -0500 answered a question openstudio output problem

Yes, I have a daylighting sensor in the zone but the difference in values occurs for the same orientation each time (for example South). when I run the model two or three times for south or north or ..., each time I receive different values for a specific orientation and this difference occurs for all of the orientations. when I run the model with another window construction (clear 6mm), every time I run the model for a specific orientation, I receive the same values and it is ok. The problem happens when I use a glazing material with these properties: Visible transmittance: 0.075 Solar transmittance: 0.065 Visible reflectance (front side): 0.293 Visible reflectance (back side): 0.554 Solar reflectance (front side): 0.243 Solar reflectance (back side): 0.553 emissivity: 0.84 In this case, the Schedule Compact fields has more than 6000 fields! (this schedule is made by radiance and pass to EnergyPlus). But this should not make any difference in the results by running the model each time.

I have a simple model with an exterior window. I use Radiance for daylighting simulation. I run the baseline model (south orientation) and different orientations (45, 90, 180, ...) with PAT. Every time I run the same model, the values that I receive for "zone lights total heating energy" is different ! For example it changes from 300 kWh to 420 kWh for the same model. Even if I run the model with OpenStudio Application instead of PAT for one of the models, the value of the output is not the same! what is the reason and how can I be sure which results are correct?

Thanks

2015-02-06 13:36:05 -0500 commented answer EnergyPlus error after running OpenStudio (passing lighting schedule)

So, if I don't do this ugly work, Is there any other option for running the IDF file and having the numerical values of the simulation?

2015-02-06 12:44:03 -0500 commented answer EnergyPlus error after running OpenStudio (passing lighting schedule)

yes, I saw the issue. The idd has 4500 fields for Schedule:Compact but my idf file contains 5100 fields for the schedule compact. In the issue, it is not written how to edit the idd file. would you please help me how to edit the idd fiel?

2015-02-06 11:31:00 -0500 asked a question EnergyPlus error after running OpenStudio (passing lighting schedule)

Hi, I have run my model with OpenStudio using Radiance for the daylighting simulation. But after that I want to run the idf file (out) in the EnergyPlusPreprocess folder. The problem is that I can not open the idf file because I receive this error:

Too many fields for object:Schedule Compact
Line number: 4849
.
.
.

This happens when the lighting schedule is made through Radiance due to the daylighting control. How can I fix this problem?

Thanks

2015-02-02 01:30:21 -0500 asked a question Daylighting controls

I have two questions about daylighting controls. 1- When I use "Continuous" for lighting control type and run the model with EnergyPlus as the simulation engine in OS, the "Electricity Consumption" is as the same as not choosing any lighting control type (the value is 584 kWh) and when I use "Stepped" or "Continuous/Off", the value decreases to 42 kWh. But, when I run the model with Radiance and choose any of the three lighting control types, the electricity consumption decreases to 125 kWh from 584 kWh. Why the "Continuous" option doesn't work when running with EnergyPlus?

2- I have one zone with an exterior window. the dimension of the room (assumed as an office space) is 6m*8m and the height is 3m. I am analysing the heating/cooling load and the electricity consumption for different cases. where is the best place to put the daylighting control sensor? In the center of the room or for example 1.60m far from the window (in the middle row) where it is assumed that the user is sitting?

2014-11-05 15:06:09 -0500 asked a question shading control and glare

When I add a shading control (interior blinds) to my model, I can not use Radiance for the daylighting simulation and I know that this because the option for controling the shades in Openstudio are related to the thermal properties. my model is simple and cubic and I am using OS verion 1.5.0. Is there any possibility to control the blinds (being active, not activated or cut off control) due to glare issues (for example when the DGPs value reaches 0.4, the blinds become activated with the proper angle)?
