I would try uninstalling both using Revo. I have noticed that Openstudio tends to keep older versions of itself on your machine instead of overwriting and updating.

2015-03-02 09:04:07 -0500 asked a question eQuest 3.65 model crashing during simulation

I have an eQuest model using heat pump for both heating and cooling. I believe everything was modeled correctly when the model was done weeks ago, however, when I go to open it now the simulation crashes as soon as it reaches the summer months.

The BDL file says the following at the end: -CAUTION--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------NO COOLING EQUIPMENT HAS BEEN DEFINED
35132 COMPUTE .. 35133 STOP ..

Anyone else experience anything like this before?

2014-12-12 10:27:02 -0500 asked a question Can I adjust fan CFM on a schedule in eQuest?

I'm preparing an energy model in eQuest for a multifamily apartment building and have run into an issue with the DOAS system.

The building has (2) AHU units supplying 100% outside air which is conditioned by a CHW and HW Loop. There is one larger unit at an estimated 18,000 cfm and a smaller unit at 12,000 cfm. Currently, they are modeled together as one 30,000 cfm VAV (with the OA and fan max and min ratios both set to 1 in order to accurately represent the operating conditions of the actual equipment).

I was informed by the facility manager today that the larger AHU was actually not working for 6 months out of the year. This explains why my calibration was off during those months. Anyway, is there a way to mimic this in eQuest?

  • A way to assign a single zone to (2) DOAS systems and then kill the fan power to one of them with a schedule
  • Drop the CFM for the combined DOAS at a certain month during the year with a schedule?
  • Any other method you guys might have?

Thanks for the help!

2014-12-05 11:09:52 -0500 asked a question How to properly model this 2-pipe FCU system in eQuest 3.65?

Hi everyone I'm trying to model an existing building in eQuest 3.65.

The building has a chilled water loop and a hot water loop (the same pumps changeover to pump HW in winter and CHW in summer).

All apartments have a non-ducted 2-pipe Fan Coil Unit. Nothing controls the coil (there's no 2-way valve), there's just a fan selector (LOW-SPEED/HI-SPEED/OFF), and there is no outside air being supplied to the apartments.

I'm struggling to understand how to properly model this in eQuest:

  • Should I create one HVAC SYSTEM (type FCU) per zone? Or one FCU system serving all of my zones? (Both seem to work, but I'm guessing there could be a drawback to using one versus the other)

  • What is the easiest way to ensure the outside air is zero?

  • How should I configure the FCU to mimic as closely as possible the (lack of) controls I have?

Thanks for any insight you can provide!
