Normally the EP-Launch application should not appear when you try to run a simulation. That makes me suspect that you do

2016-08-01 20:56:07 -0500 answered a question Will there be a release of 1.0.15 Openstudio Legacy plugin for EnergyPlus version 8.5?

Big Ladder has agreed to become the new maintainer of the Legacy OpenStudio plugin. We plan to put out our first release in late August to September. This release will update the plugin for EnergyPlus 8.5 and address at least one critical bug (the double-creation of surfaces issue). The updated plugin will be coming out under a new name so keep on eye on the mailing lists for an announcement.

As for question number two, there are no significant disadvantages that I know of using version 1.0.14 of the Legacy plugin with EnergyPlus 8.5. The plugin will put up a warning message complaining that the plugin is for version 8.4 and might not be compatible. This warning is displayed when you first open an input file that is set to version 8.5, when you set the EnergyPlus engine in the Preferences window, and when you try to run a simulation (and possibly other times). As long as you persevere and don't let it discourage you, it will work. There are no changes in geometry objects between version 8.4 and 8.5 that would affect the way the plugin works.

2016-04-12 18:11:36 -0500 marked best answer What software can generate an energy model from CAD or BIM?

I'm looking for a list of software applications, tools, or workflows that can automatically generate an energy model from an existing CAD or BIM file. It could include CAD/BIM software that exports an energy model, or energy modeling software that imports a CAD/BIM file, or some kind of middleware. I'm not picky about which energy modeling engine is the target output. You can consider the question from the perspective of a consumer looking at all of the available options for selecting a CAD-to-energy-modeling workflow without regard to engine. I would also be interested in remarks on the completeness and robustness of the resulting energy model and the efficiency and usability of the whole process.

2015-09-14 12:43:07 -0500 marked best answer What are the available sources for historical weather data?

For some modeling projects you need to obtain a weather file for a historical period (e.g., the previous year) in a given location in order to do a calibration or other kinds of analysis. What are the available sources for historical, measured weather data? Either ready-made weather files or raw data of any interval (hourly, monthly) that could be used to create a custom weather file would be great.
