2016-04-12 18:04:37 -0500 | marked best answer | How important are the structure of tabs in OS? I'm trying mostly to use OS for indoor climate simulation, and in that matter, I would like to know more about which of the tabs are most important... I can se tab "Thermal Zone" have the zone equipment where I can define ventilation, heating, cooling and so on. Then do I need to add anything to the tab "HVAC system"?? I'm a little confused on that. As well, whats the importance of the "facility" tab? |
2016-04-12 18:01:22 -0500 | marked best answer | Is it possible to use the "Ideal Air Loads" in tab "Thermal Zone" instead of defining an HVAC-system, if calculating only for room temperature and surface temperatures in a room using OpenStudio? I want to calculate the room temperature during a year in a room, so to speak a thermal indoor climate analysis (i don't care about energy use), and I think the HVAC-system-tab/air-loop-settings in OpenStudio is too advanced for my case - So is it possible to instead just use the "Ideal air loads"-button? Does anybody have a bad experience with this? |

2016-03-27 07:27:58 -0500 | commented answer | How to model a (independent) heating source in EnergyPlus? Hey again - I hope it's alright to come back to you with a question :) I've tried to add a ZoneControl:Thermostat:OperativeTemperature object, but I get more (1021) hours below 21 degrees then before (774).. Originally I have IdealLoadAirSystem, Thermostat, duelsetpoint, design specification outdoor air, a equipment list and the connection (referring to the objects IdealLoadAirSystem requires).. but thats all needed according to what I can read from the webpage bigladder, it says: "Zone Control:Thermostatic and related set point objects also need to be included in the input file." |
2016-03-26 05:08:36 -0500 | commented answer | How to model a (independent) heating source in EnergyPlus? I'll read more about that object thanks! :) |
2016-03-26 04:27:14 -0500 | commented answer | How to control the supply inlet temperature in IdealLoadAirSystem-object? Okay, i'll try to look into making an airloop. Thanks! :) If I use OS and look at an exported idf-file from an OS-file with VAV-system, would it then be possible to know which and how many objects I need to make the air-loop correct? In your opinion :) |

2016-03-25 07:59:09 -0500 | commented answer | How to model a (independent) heating source in EnergyPlus? Thank you for the advise and the link! I just read about "Other Equipment" in the input/output-reference, but I couldn't find a field where to define a setpoint for minimum room temperature.. Is that just me misunderstanding the object, or is that how it works? |
2016-03-25 07:56:19 -0500 | commented answer | How to model a (independent) heating source in EnergyPlus? Yes I very much want to, and I also do so. But from the results I can see operative room temperature at 20,5C e.g... which does not make sense to me... |

2016-03-25 07:54:58 -0500 | commented question | How to control the supply inlet temperature in IdealLoadAirSystem-object? Yes, I want to keep the inlet temperature at e.g. 21C, but the amount of air coming into the room to go from e.g. 2/hr to 4/hr when a cooling load occurs. Does that make sense? :) |

2016-03-24 07:43:06 -0500 | asked a question | How to control the supply inlet temperature in IdealLoadAirSystem-object? I'm using the IdealLoadAirSystem-object in energyplus, and can see from the results, that when my internal gains increases (and I then get a cooling demand), the heating of my supply inlet temperature stops and then the room receives unheated outdoor-air e.g. at 4C. This makes sense since IdealLoadAirObject tries to stick to the thermostat setpoint temperature (21C), but instead of decreasing the inlet temperature, I want to increase the supply air rate. How to do this? 1) Can IdealLoadAirSystem do this via specific settings, or 2) do I have to add another/new HVAC-opbejct? The calculation is 100% thermal. |
2016-03-24 06:15:00 -0500 | asked a question | How to model a (independent) heating source in EnergyPlus? In energyplus, can one add an object that simply insures that the room temperature is never below a minimum? Like a node from which heat is flowing into the zone.. Convection, radiation, both or just one, i'm not looking for surface temperature, just room temperature. The zoneHVACbaseboard types does not work for me.. |

2016-03-15 13:09:55 -0500 | commented answer | Can I import a new (updated) IDF-file (my geometry) into an existing OS-file where a IDF-file already has been imported? Okay.. :) Now I tried the three measures from the BCL, but every time I get an error that somethings (primarily construction names and material names) is missing, and so I can see in the in.idf that OS tries to make. The Name-fields/lines are empty, but the IDF that I in different ways are trying to get in, has alle the names.. I's that a typical error, or should I keep trying to find other measures? |
2016-03-15 13:06:54 -0500 | marked best answer | Design Specification ZoneHVAC Sizing Object Name in ZoneHVAC:IdealLoadAirSystem In EP-launch I have investigated the "ZoneHVAC:IdealLoadAirSystem" and the last field is the "Design Specification ZoneHVAC Sizing Object Name". What does it mean for the "ZoneHVAC:IdealLoadAirSystem"'s way of working, if I activate the last field by writing a name (and of course also have specified/defined this name in a "Design Specification ZoneHVAC Sizing")?? Is it okay to not fill out this last field? |
2016-03-15 13:05:24 -0500 | commented answer | Design Specification ZoneHVAC Sizing Object Name in ZoneHVAC:IdealLoadAirSystem Thanks for elaborating! Just to be sure; When you write "...you could use the Design Specification Zone HVAC Sizing object...", are you then referring to the other option for defining max flow rate for cooling and heating via the fields within the actual IdealLoadAirSystem-object? |
2016-03-15 10:17:07 -0500 | commented answer | Design Specification ZoneHVAC Sizing Object Name in ZoneHVAC:IdealLoadAirSystem Oh great! But how does that fit with the IdealAirLoadSystem-object being a "not-sizing"-object? |

2016-03-15 07:29:47 -0500 | edited question | Can I import a new (updated) IDF-file (my geometry) into an existing OS-file where a IDF-file already has been imported? Hi. I have an OS-model, which I started up by importing a IDF-file with my geometry. Now I have an updated version of the geometry and therefore an updated IDF-file. But when I try to import the updated IDF-file into my OS-model, OS wants me to save and close my model and makes a new model with the updated IDF-file. But then all my settings are to be entered again?? :s How can I import a IDF-model into an existing OS-model? I have tried doing it by using SketchUp as the geometry (in stead of a IDF-file), and this I can keed updating, and the OS-file just adds more and more as I wanted, without deleting anything I made :) .. But I'm not interested in using sketchup as my geometry-base. My geometry is in a IDF-file... |
