Dan, is schedule file now supported? Thanks!

2016-04-06 11:22:02 -0500 asked a question How to view OpenStudio Results per week not per month?

OpenStudio gives nice monthly data, for example monthly electricity usage, but can it graph this and display the data on a per week basis instead of a monthly basis? I am trying to see the trends for a particular week and it just graphs the week as a block of that month and does not break it up per day. Thanks!

Oh no, is there a way to delete this measure once implemented?!

2016-03-24 09:41:59 -0500 asked a question What are .BINM and .FIN4 files in relation to weather data? And are they used in OpenStudio?

I purchased real weather data and they sent me three files. A .epw file, that I know how/where to implement, but also .BINM and .FIN4, what are these and are they implemented in the OpenStudio Application somewhere?

2016-03-21 19:47:11 -0500 commented answer Is there a simplified way to model the ground-surface-contact for a building in OpenStudio?

Thank you. Very helpful. I am receiving a lot of unmet hours in heating now though. I have everything autosized, I don't understand why this happens!

How do I get the measure into the model? I do not see it on the BCL? Do I modify it manually? Building is in Colorado so monthly temps will be different

Is there a simplified way to model the ground-surface-contact for a building in OpenStudio? It seems like the posted answers explain how complicated it is, has there been any simplified methods people have found? What are the effects of neglecting this in an analysis.

2016-03-07 21:38:09 -0500 commented question Hot water tank cannot be autosized without failing, is there a way around hard sizing?

It is OS 1.9.0.

2016-03-06 01:03:53 -0500 asked a question Hot water tank cannot be autosized without failing, is there a way around hard sizing?

I created a Water Use Connections object and a Water Fixture object and dropped them into the appropriate places in the Service Hot Water Loop. I then attempted to bring the hot water to the loop. I dropped a mixed hot water tank into the demand side of my district hot water loop. I created a new plant loop and dropped the same hot water tank into the supply size and added my water connection to the demand side. When I dropped the hot water tank in it hard sized to a really large value and my water use equipment was 95% of the usage of my building. I then tried to autosize and it failed. Is this a common bug? Is there a way around this?

2016-02-29 22:16:49 -0500 commented question Applied Four Pipe Fan Coil Measure and Pump Usage Seems Low, What may be accounting for this?

the fan autosized values/default values (i.e. airflow and efficiency) to the actual values may increase this. But I do not understand why the pumps would be so low. I feel like I am missing maybe another loop somewhere? I am sorry my questions may not be very direct, I have limited experience and am struggling to find the right questions to ask. The research I have done suggests maybe I am missing a service hot water transfer loop, but I cannot figure out how that gets integrated into my current setup, or to be honest, what that really entails in the open studio application. Thanks!

2016-02-29 22:12:29 -0500 commented question Applied Four Pipe Fan Coil Measure and Pump Usage Seems Low, What may be accounting for this?

I am working on a 5 story dormitory, used for residential purposes only (i.e. no large kitchens or workout facilities). There are two AHU's on the roof that bring fresh air into the zones. There are fan coils in each zone that condition the air. I applied the four pipe fan coil system, removed the boiler/condensing loop/cooling tower and replaces these things with domestic chilled/hot water. This seems to be functioning fine, despite a larger than expected amount of unmet cooling hours. The fans show up at about 6% of the usage and the pumps, only about 2%. I understand maybe changing

Applied Four Pipe Fan Coil Measure and Pump Usage Seems Low, What may be accounting for this? It should be noted that I modified Four Pipe Fan Coil to have cold/hot water loops instead of cooling tower/boiler/chiller. I also made the pumps continuous. Could it be that they are being counted as interior equipment? Could this also be due to not adding in water fixture units yet? Thanks.

2016-02-13 15:56:17 -0500 marked best answer What is the difference between space type and thermal zone?

If I created a bunch of zones, does each zone need to be designed as a single thermal zone? But different thermal zones can be assigned the same space type if they have the same attributes? Am I thinking of this correctly?

2016-02-04 10:54:05 -0500 commented answer How do I set up a multi-zone DOAS and a zone level FCU for a high rise residential building?

Thank you, I have done this already. I am just having a hard time changing from chiller/boiler to district cooling/heating. I am also having a hard time with where I put thermostat temperatures and sizing temperatures. I don't think the DOAS and FCU's are working together, I am getting way to much energy use, 0 degree setpoint temperatures and and thousands of unmet hours in cooling.

2016-02-04 10:36:20 -0500 commented answer How do I set up a multi-zone DOAS and a zone level FCU for a high rise residential building?

Yeah but how do I make sure Energy Plus knows to have the DOAS be first priority and then use the FCU to heat and cool for thermostat temperature? My errors file is showing temperature setpoint is zero, it is not zero, so something is going wrong

2016-02-04 10:34:28 -0500 asked a question I get this error when I changed my chilled water loop form a Chiller to District Cooling. Does this mean I need to make a different System Loop that it not chilled water? What would the correct system be for district cooling?

2016-02-03 23:16:27 -0500 commented answer What is the Cooling Sizing Parameters - Zone Cooling DesignSupply Air Temperature for?

So it is kind of like what you would want the air temperature to be supplied at to over compensate for the load? Is this a calculation I need to do?

2016-02-03 23:12:18 -0500 commented question I am modeling a dorm, trying to make the baseline model, and it hads FCU's for heating/cooling in each space and two rooftop AHU's providing fresh air. Is there a measure I can apply to model this as a whole HVAC system?

As a senior capstone we have to model a residence hall on campus and match the "baseline" model to the current building data. Then we will implement energy saving techniques to see how much they will save. I guess this would be considered generic. The building is only 5 or so years old.

2016-02-03 19:33:28 -0500 commented answer Where do I input the thermostat setpoint temperature?

Or is there a different HVAC whole system I can apply to model a FCU in every room for heating/cooling an 2 rooftop AHU's bringing in fresh water?

2016-02-03 19:03:29 -0500 commented answer Where do I input the thermostat setpoint temperature?

Don't be sorry, I just don't really understand why my energy consumption is so high, and there are so many inputs I just have no idea. Did you read my question on the Heating/Cooling Sizing Parameters? Can you explain this, I noticed changing these changes my energy consumption. Any way you could explain this to me? Thank you for your time, I really appreciate it.

2016-02-03 18:25:36 -0500 commented answer Where do I input the thermostat setpoint temperature?

Okay, I did this. I am confused still, what the numbers for Zone Cooling Design Supply Air Temperature and for heating also. In Thermal Zone tab, Cool Sizing Parameters (Heating Sizing Parameters). They are currently 14 deg C in cooling and 30 deg C in heating. What are these? Could this be why my baseline model is seeing nearly 3 times its actual energy use? With 500 unmet hours? Someone told me to get a whole hvac system in my building I should apply the Four Pipe Fan Coil More Parameters measure. I feel like it really messed up my model, there was so many default inputs I feel so confused.

2016-02-03 16:51:42 -0500 commented answer Where do I input the thermostat setpoint temperature?

Thank you, that was helpful, I downloaded a HVAC system and I was getting a lot of errors/warning, one being the thermostat setpoint temperature was 0C . Do you know of any example buildings I can download to see how they input everything in. Specifically I am doing a dorm, and example apartment complex or something would be ideal. Thanks again
