In OpenStudio I'm using the stack and wind effect in order to simulate a crude natural ventilation. I would like to know if this measure takes into account the unwanted vortexes of air (that can make fly the papers or can create uncomfortable situations) inside the thermal zones. thanks

Stack Effect! My original suggestion for the name of this website! UnmetHours is better, admittedly.

I am not sure about OpenStudio, but the ZoneVentilation:WindandStackOpenArea input object has a field called Maximum Wind Speed. There is no modeling of vortexes, but we know it is correlated with strong wind. The idea is that the papers will fly when the outside wind gets above some speed so people will shut the window. So if you pick a wind speed limit, the model can shut off open area ventilation during those times, to avoid over-prediction of natural ventilation.

thank you, is there maybe a limit speed I can I use for office buildings? Is there anything in the Ashrae I can follow? thanks
