Is it possible to convert a newer EnergyPlus IDF to an older version of EnergyPlus?

I would like to convert an idf that is EnergyPlus version 8.5 to an idf that is EnergyPlus 8.1 or older. Is this possible? I would like to take a model I created in OpenStudio 1.11 (EnergyPlus 8.5) and open the idf in Simergy which uses EnergyPlus 8.1.

Yes, but generally with losses: e.g. if you have old(er) version of Google Sketchup (8) installed, you can use the IDF import function to retrieve objects such as the geometry and schedules; everything that cannot be imported is lost. This also works with the Legacy OpenStudio plugin.
