Hi All, I just wanted to ask about using intersecting in sketchup plugin and stand alone measure for surface matching. When I use Sketchup plugin I get problems of generation of small surface and this does not happen while using surface matching stand a lone measure.

I remember @David Goldwasser said in one of my previously asked question that for stand alone measure if I do intend to have interior subsurfaces, OpenStudio won't find surface match unless the subsurface exists in both surfaces. So keeping this in mind e.g. if a room and corridor are two separate zones, then how this comment will fit into this situation? I have to draw door in both zones (corridor and room)?

@David Goldwasser: I would appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance.

Kindest Regards Waseem

Yes, you do have to draw the subsurface in both spaces. If you just have a few then an easy way to do this is to go into the space that already has the subsurface, select the edges of the subsurface but not the face. Then copy the edges, exit the space and enter the adjacent space and choose paste in place from the edit menu. If you watch this video at about 3min mark it shows you how to do this.

I would point out that in general I try to avoid interior subsurfacs unless they serve a specific purpose. e.g. If the thermal properties are important or it is being used for daylighting.

You can also use the intersect tool in the plugin vs. the surface matching measure, if it doesn't cause any issues. It will intersect subsurfacs for you.

Hey @David Goldwasser I follwed all your steps to match and intersect the entire model but it still causing me problems, when I use the measure the building still looks fine (no walls or roof missing) but it is not all intersected or matched and thus I have this kind of error concerning commun edges, and when I also try to intersect and match using the plugin, at first when I check it is all intersected and almost all matched but ...

.. but after I run the model (and it fails) I open it again with sketch up and I find a lot of missing roofs and walls. @David Goldwasser I would appreciate a lot your help Thanks

PS: I am using OpenStudio 2.5, SketchUp2017 and EnergyPlus 8.9.0
