Radiator and NV - heating suddenly stops mid year E+

asked 2026-04-09 10:48:29 -0500

Hi, I have a model that is a converted victorian villa, from residential to office. The building is naturally ventilated and has a boiler feeding a radiator system. I have modelled the building and system. It was running ok (ish) with a setpoint of 22'C when the system was on, 6'C when it was off, and it was running from 7am to 7pm. The heating system ran fine for the whole year with reasonable heating energy reported. When I changed the boiler and radiator system to 8am to 6pm the heating systems just shuts down in the middle of January, no flow through any of the boilers or radiators. I can't work out why it just suddenly stops. It is reporting unmet hours and not meeting setpoint anymore. Even stranger, when i put it back to the original settings it is still shutting down in the middle of January and only meeting the setback of 6'C, it doesn't reach the setpoint of 22'C at any time. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. many thanks! Annie

@Annie Marston are you able to share the model here so that others can review inputs? If so, possibly each iteration of the model that you've tried to track down what input change(s) caused this?

to answer my own question, I think this has happened because I have 3 boilers (which the real building has) but have split the building into 3 and so when I remove 2 of the boilers the system runs through with the new scheduling. I think the boiler system was too large and in some cases the flow from the system was so low that the system just shut down.
