Hide Old Questions - For example, those with confusing wording that haven't been answered in many months

I regularly check the "unanswered" section to see if there are questions I can answer. There are many questions in that section that I would like to be able to hide. For example, @Edwin's question about Unmet Hours on Mobile has some discussion in the comments section, but no actual answers. There are also some old questions that were confusing or too general and were never answered.

There are a number of ways to sort there questions, but it would be great to allow each user to hide questions he/she doesn't want to see regularly.

That specific question should simply be deleted because it's just a shameless karma grab.

Following on from this answer, I've created an [unanswerable] tag which can be added to unanswerable questions (e.g. this sort of thing which is nice to keep around, but not answerable). If people don't want to see these questions then they can add them to their ignored tags. I haven't found any obvious candidates for an [archive] tag for obsolete questions (e.g. about bugs in superceded versions of EnergyPlus/OpenStudio/SketchUp) but I'd suggest the same approach. Perhaps it could be usefully applied to questions where the user has stopped responding to requests for further information such as this one, or perhaps [unanswerable] is appropriate there too.

This makes not seeing these questions an opt-in decision and so it will not affect general users. It will however help users who like to trawl through older questions for any which may have been missed.

Good call. I also added the discussion tag. There are some questions which don't lend themselves to one correct answer, like this one.

If there are questions that you feel should be removed and you don't have enough karma to close the question yourself, you can email unmethours@bigladdersoftware.com and someone will clean it up.

Closed questions will remain on the site, but they shouldn't show up when filtering.

(Or just tag @Neal Kruis in the comment section? That's usually what I do haha :))

That works, too.

@Neal Kruis, when clicking "Unanswered", can UH sort by date so that most recent unanswered questions appears first?

Chandan Sharma's avatar Chandan Sharma  ( 2016-04-28 23:03:03 -0600 )edit

Yes! Just click on "by date" to sort by date.

I was trying to ask, UH shows last unanswered question first. It has to be then sorted by date by the user. Can the most recent unanswered question be the first to show up by UH itself? if not, clicking "by date" option is already there. Sorry for the confusion.

Since unmethours is about software development where questions may become outdated with new releases anyway, I would propose not to delete questions as a general rule but to create an archive where one could dig in case someone discovers a need to do so. In this way outdated questions are no longer shown among unanswered questions regularly but still could be retrieved, if necessary.

How about we also add an answer to those questions that says "This question appears to be unanswerable." That way it does not show up when looking for new questions to answer.

But who answers and then gets the up/downvotes? Retagging is "karma-neutral" to coin a phrase.

this seems like the most functional option for now. If the question is unanswerable, I don't think that anyone will really get upvotes for saying so. If it is answerable answering in such a way could result in negative karma.
