You may change the "solar distribution" to "FullExterior". If it could not be changed in DB, try export to a idf file, t

Do you want to run E+ and Matlab synchronous that mean at each timestep EnergyPlus exchange data with Matlab mutually?

2016-11-16 04:26:17 -0500 commented question Zone temperature beyond heating setpoint temperature

Make sure you did not set people activity schedule to the Number of People Schedule Name in class of People. I taught E+ and came across several these mistakes resulting a 0 heating design load .

2016-11-16 04:13:16 -0500 answered a question What is a gem? And how does OpenStudio use them?

Gem is a Ruby library based on which build your own software. As OpenStudio use Ruby and C++, OS does use those library such as RubyGem and Qt. If you have any ruby programming experience, you will know how it works. Just search ruby gem on google, and you will have a basic understanding.

Thanks for you suggestion.

2016-11-06 20:09:54 -0500 answered a question Modelling large volumes like industrial halls

I recommend the Room Air Models in EnergyPlus which aimed modeling non-uniform room air temperatures that may occur within the interior air volume of a zone. The Room Air Models contained different air distribution models, for example ThreeNodeDisplacementVentilation used to simulate displacement ventilation. If you had conducted a CFD analysis, define your air model using RoomAir:TemperaturePattern:UserDefined. Refer to Input Output Reference for more information and UserDefinedRoomAirPatterns.idf in ExampleFiles may help you have a better understand of this model.

2016-11-06 19:31:32 -0500 asked a question What your opinion of building energy simulation and optimization tools?

Hi everyone

Recently, I am conducting an online survey about building energy simulation and optimization tools, such as DesignBuilder Optimization module, BEOpt and GenOpt. I'd like to know early users' opinion other than researchers'. If you ever used any energy simulation and optimization software, could you please help answer the fellow three questions in https://sojump.com/jq/10264875.aspx.

1.Which building energy simulation and optimization (BESO) software do you ever used?

2.Which advantages agree with the current features of BESO softwere ?

3.Which hindrance do you think hinder the wide spread and application of BESO software?

2016-11-01 21:26:22 -0500 commented question Natural ventilation using ZoneVentilation:WindandStackOpenArea

Check your calculation process once more, because it is less likely E+ was wrong. You can also use the more sophisticated method AirflowNetwork to model the natural ventilation and it is easy for box building.

2016-11-01 09:21:35 -0500 commented answer Shading Design - Surface Outside Face Sunlit Fraction

You can use codes to manipulate the output, for example set a threshold. Any script language, such as Ruby, Perl, Python, can be used to do that job.

2016-10-31 19:58:58 -0500 commented question Natural ventilation using ZoneVentilation:WindandStackOpenArea

Did you calculate the predicted volumetric flow rate at one time step or a period of time? The wind speed and wind direction may vary hour by hour. Some old weather files came from the local airport weather forecast which reported once in three hours.

2016-10-31 19:24:49 -0500 answered a question Shading Design - Surface Outside Face Sunlit Fraction

Since E+ calculates the solar radiation reflection of ground and all other shading objects, for example other buildings, the surface outside face received both reflected and unreflected (direct) solar solar radiation. The total Surface Outside Face Sunlit Area is the area receive either direct (unreflected) or reflected solar. So the Surface Outside Face Sunlit Fraction equals Surface Outside Face Sunlit Area divided by total surface area.

2016-10-31 08:26:09 -0500 answered a question OpenStudio Output Variables Definitions

Open your OSM file->run->5-EnergyPlus-0->eplusout.rdd. Copy the variable name into the AddOutputVariable Measure. You can also open the eplusout.rdd file in the term Run Simulation->Tree. After opening the file, copy the variable name into the AddOutputVariable Measure.

In the Library of Measure term.

2016-10-31 08:26:09 -0500 commented question How to model 4 pipe air source heat pump using energy plus

You can't. I recommend you use Coil:WaterHeating:AirToWaterHeatPump:Pumped object which is used to simulate air source heat pump for hot water. You can achieve this by three steps. The first step is use HVACTemplate:Plant:Boiler to build the hot water plant loop. After running the simulation, find out expidf file and change its suffix to idf. The third step is to replace the boiler object with Coil:WaterHeating:AirToWaterHeatPump:Pumped.

2016-10-31 08:26:09 -0500 commented question Constant volume system, design temperature influence.

Sizing:Zone calculates the zone design air flow rate which assumes a variable amount of supply air at a fixed temperature and humidity. As you set different supply air temperatures, it results different zone design air flow rate with a different fan energy consumption.

2016-10-31 08:26:09 -0500 commented question The wall will be internal/external/in the middle of the line?

It doesn't matter. Make sure the difference between buildings' floor area and the original (design) floor area less than a small number, for example 3%.

2016-10-31 08:26:09 -0500 commented answer Is OpenStudio (or EnergyPlus) able to carry out optimization of the model?

It seems that you had some experience to use these tools. Could you help me answer a questionnaire about energy optimization. Click here: https://sojump.com/jq/10264875.aspx. I am a junior researcher from China.

2015-12-23 09:41:20 -0500 answered a question Using a negative temperature in design supply temperature?

You may set Field: Zone Cooling Design Supply Air Temperature Input Method= TemperatureDifference, then supply air temperature will change automatically and zone temperature can below zero.
