2016-04-23 13:32:28 -0500 commented answer Space heating and DHW energy consumption results

Thank you. But I do not really understand how this makes me see the results. When I open the .mtd file with a text editor I can see something similar to your pictures but I do not know what to do to see the values I am looking for somewhere. I am a very beginner so I am sorry to bother you with what seems to be very basic.

Hey, I am having problems trying to find the energy consumption results for the domestic hot water. I think the table below shows the energy which is used for space heating for each zone. However, I couldn't find anything like this for the hot water consumption. I am looking for an annual value for each zone. I have also checked the 'Output Variables' tab with no success. Any ideas where to get these results? Thank you

2016-04-22 07:05:28 -0500 asked a question Difference between defined and calculated air flow

Hey, I have modeled my building with ZoneVenitlation:DesignFLowrate objects in each thermal zone since I have only exhaust fans. The supply air is directly provided by the outdoor air.

In the ZoneVenitlation:DesignFLowrate objects I have set the type of ventilation to 'Exhaust', defined the Design Flow Rate, the schedule, the efficiency, and the pressure rise. I kept the default values in the other fields (e.g. constant term coefficient, temperature term coefficient, etc.)

I did not define the 'Design Specification Outdoor Air' since this is only used to size the HVAC systems, but I do not have any air loops under the HVAC Systems tab. (Please correct me if I am wrong)

When I run the simulation now and look at the Results summary I can see in the e+ 'HVAC Sizing Summary' report the 'Calculated Design Air Flow' and the 'User Design Air Flow'. Both values show me the same value because I have set the sizing factor to 1 but these Air Flows are not the one I have specified in the ZoneVenitlation:DesignFLowRate object. The values for the flow rate in the results summary are approximately 3 times greater than defined and also vary with each zone even though I have defined the same airflow for each zone.

So my question is what the reason for this could be and how I can fix it?

Below you can see the values I have defined and and the values as shown in the results summary.

2016-04-20 10:27:50 -0500 commented answer Where can I change the site to source conversion factors?

Thank you so much. However, I am an absolute beginner with OS and e+. Could you tell me where or how I can make an IDF file? And I am only interested in changing the conversation factor for district heating to 1,0 (type of energy supply for DHW and heating) and the factor of electricity to 2,5 (lighting and equipment). Is it correct if the IDF file would look like this? FuelFactors, ! My fuel factor 2.5, !- Source Energy Factor {J/J} 1.0 !- Electricity Energy Factor {J/J}

2016-04-20 09:25:09 -0500 commented answer How does ZONE EXHAUST FAN work?

Thank you! However, I am not sure how I could check the E+ example file in OS. When I try to import the TermReheatZoneExh.idf file in OS the following warning shows up 'File is not valid to draft strictness'. I read in another forum that it is not possible to import e+ files made in an older version. I am using OS 1.10. Also, the user OS user guide states under 'Import and Export Options' that only the geometry, constructions, loads, thermal zones, and schedules can be imported. Not the HVAC systems. Could you please help me out here too?

Hey, could anyone tell me where I can change the conversion factors for electricity and district heating?

Several conversion factors are shown at the end of the Result Summary tab but I cannot find the place where I can change them. Thank you in advance!

2016-04-19 07:05:04 -0500 asked a question How does ZONE EXHAUST FAN work?

Hey, I am trying to model my building with only exhaust fans in each thermal zone. The supply air is provided through openings in the window frames. My building consists of one central ventilation unit which takes the the exhaust air out in each of the zones (50 zones in total). To do so, I am adding the ZONE EXHAUST FAN from the library to the zone equipment under the thermal zone tab. I have defined the fan efficiency, the maximum flow rate, the flow fraction schedule, and the balanced exhaust fraction schedule (always 1 since the supply air is provided by infiltration). But when I run the simulation now, I get no consumption for the fans.

So my question is now if I have to define an Air Loop under the HVAC system tab too? And if yes could you please tell me how to do this for this specific case! Thank you!

2016-04-16 14:01:20 -0500 asked a question Energy consumption heating & DHW for each zone

Hi there, I am struggling with something (probably very basic for you) but I couldn't find an answer here or anywhere else to this.

I have modeled a building with 50 thermal zones and now I would like to check the energy consumption for heating and domestic hot water for each zone on a monthly base.

I've turned on "Zone Air System Sensible Heating Energy" under the "Output Variables" tab and set it to monthly.

Now, when I open the ResultsViewer I get 8 different Outputs for this for each zone. 7 are empty and the last one shows me either the flood or the line plot.

However, I want to have a value for each month of the year, not a graph.

So my question is now how can I get this? And do you know an output in the Output Variable that shows me the total energy consumption of each zone?

I would appreciate your help! Thank you!
