Which unit is more appropriate for examining annual HVAC energy consumption, watts or joules?

Hi everyone,

I aim to analyze the annual energy consumption levels of a building under various facade designs using OpenStudio. My focus is on the energy consumption levels stemming from thermal space conditioning. Hence, I want to obtain the electricity consumption of the assigned HVAC systems for heating and cooling within each thermal zone over the course of a year.

However, I couldn't decide which unit and EnergyPlus results would best suit this comparison. Should I opt for watts or joules? Is there a more conventional or technically precise choice?

Thanks a lot! Gulce
