BEopt ground source loop type

BEopt's help specifies that GSHP are modeled as vertical bores rather than horizontal fields, but are these open or closed-loop? I shouldn't think it matters in most cases, since this parameter is used to determine the equpment's rated efficiency, but I am curious.

BEopt ground source loop typetype: Open or closed?

BEopt's help specifies that GSHP are modeled as vertical bores rather than horizontal fields, but are these open or closed-loop? I shouldn't think it matters in most cases, since this parameter is used to determine the equpment's equipment's rated efficiency, efficiency (which one sets directly in BEopt), but I am curious.
