Universal ways to calculate ventilation load

This is kind of a generic, brainstorming question.

I'm always being asked to show how much of the heating and cooling loads come from ventilation, compared to internal gains, conduciton, infiltration, etc. This is generally not a straighforward thing to out of an energy model. The best way I've been able to come up with is to take the flow rate and temperature of OA, RA, and SA nodes, then do a little math calcualting the energy needed to take the OA up to RA temperature, and then assuming that the rest (RA to SA) is broken down into internal gains (much easier to export from most sofware). That abviosuly assumes the OA flow is < the SA flow, but that's generally an OK exception.

So the problem there is that it's very specifc to a model and needs to be pulled out manually (regardless of software, but we can assume E+) by specifying the nodes. Does anyone know of any better output variables that could be used to figure this out?
