Hello everybody! When I save an osm file on a usb I can't open it on another computer. I just get the message that it can't be opened. It's as if I lost the path somehow. Is there another way to save it or did I install my OS app wrong?

Thank you for your help!

  • OpenStudio CLI or OpenStudio Application?
  • same OpenStudio version on both computers?
  • Can both computers freely read/write on the USB drive?
  • Can you right-click on the .osm file (on the USB drive) and open it with a text editor?
  • Can you make a small edit (e.g. change material thickness by 0.1 mm) ...
  • ... then save a copy next to the initial USB file?
  • What is the word-for-word message popping up when you try to open the .osm file?
  • Any absolute paths embedded in the .osm file (e.g. weather file)?
  • If so, are these absolute paths valid for both computers?

Hello Denis,

I am using OpenStudio Application

Both have the same version (even if i try to open the USB file in the same computer it does not run)

I changed the thickness as you said and saved the text file next to the original osm file

I also reentered the weather files from a climate folder copied in the usb

The message is " Failed to open file at E:/house.osm."

Thank you for your help!

The "Failed to open file at" message narrows down the issue a bit. I suggest going through these related UMH posts (here, here) and see if you're in a similar situation. If not, consider filing an issue. Which version, BTW? Windows or MacOS? Can you try the same exercise with a more recent OS version (installed on both computers)?
