Is there a working OpenStudio model with an ice tank / storage?

The EP object ThermalStorage:Ice:Detailed was just added to OS 1.8.0, have you tried that? You can also use the three EP IceStorage example files for reference. These are part of the EP installation at:

C:\Program Files\OpenStudio 1.8.1\share\openstudio\EnergyPlusV8-3-0\ExampleFiles

I tried importing the .idf ice storage example files in OpenStudio but I get the error "File is not valid to draft strictness". Does that mean that it contains data and/or components that cannot be mapped in OpenStudio at this time?

Yes, only EP objects and object fields that are supported in OS can be imported. Moreover, only geometry, schedules, constructions, and loads can be imported to OS at this time.

I meant that you could open the example IDFs in the EP IDFEditor as a reference for how to configure your system.
