Energy Model Calibration Workflow
With the release of BEOpt v3 and the use of OpenStudio-HPXML for energy modeling, is there a defined workflow or method for utility bill calibration? Previous posts (1) (2) (3) mention the need for calibrated energy models for single family homes (1-4 units). I understand the full v3 roll-out for summer is prioritizing ccASHP (appropriately). Since the feature is not currently available, is there a recommended alternative/work-around for using 12-24 month historical bill data and/or annual interval data?
- Can the outputs from BEOpt v3 (beta or full) be used as inputs for OpenStudio and its Utility Bill calibration measure (Calibration Reports Enhanced), if the energy modeling is natively OpenStudio-HPXML?
- If so, what assumptions or modifications are required?
- If so, can the calibrated energy model be reopened in BEOpt for changing designs or cases?
- Previous questions about calibration tools referenced ORNL developments, like Autotune, which requires using EnergyPlus 7.0. Is there a way that Autotune can work with the updated versions of EnergyPlus?
I don't have many answers myself, but I can answer the third question. BEopt cannot import EnergyPlus/OpenStudio models, only export them, so it is not possible to bring a calibrated model back into BEopt.
