I'm interested in using OpenStudio to model a single family home, but all of the resources, building types, templates, components, etc. seem to be for larger commercial buildings.

I'm curious if anyone has had experience using OpenStudio to model smaller buildings and what your work flow was for getting that set up. Did you make everything from scratch? Did you just use the closes fit from the the available building types? Are there resources out there that I'm just not finding?

I suggest looking at BEopt which will also run EP. You could quickly create a model in BEopt and look at or even use the IDF file that it creates to use in OS. Also, the House Simulation Protocols are a good resource for residential inputs in addition to Standard 90.2.

If you end up creating 90.2 constructions, consider uploading them to the BCL to make available for others.

Just checked out BEopt, looks like I can do what I need to with that for now! If I end up creating any residential constructions for OpenStudio, I'll make sure to share.

@beebs, DOE and NREL are actively porting BEopt to the OpenStudio platform! Some of the stuff you are looking for may already be in the BCL and anything you add will help out the cause!

Good point @Amir Roth, I had forgotten about that. Also, @beebs you should be able to import almost everything except the HVAC system into OS using the BEopt IDF.

Also, be sure to check out DView which is bundled with BEopt but available separately too. It's a great data viewer, nicer in some ways than RV.

There are a number of residential-focused measures in our staging repository that have not yet made it to the BCL. The BEOpt guys will be extending and validating them over the next few months, and they'll hopefully be published no later than the Fall. Let us know if you'd like early access to the repo. The content is usable, but not quite complete or tested to our satisfaction yet so we've not made it public.
