What is the definition and can I modify the EnergyCharges in the Group:Economics of EnergyPlus?

asked 2 years ago

Hello, I am trying to properly calculate the energy tariff of the property through EnergyPlus using the UtilityCost:Tariff and UtilityCost:Charge:Simple. I am having a difficult time finding information on how to decide what variable to use in the Source Variable field and also finding what is the definition of EnergyCharges in the Category Variable Name, what variables actually go into said variable, and can I modify what variables actually go into the tariff calculation? (which electricity charges, which items, etc)

Thank you! Best regards, Hanif

Assuming that it is a simple utility rate that all the electricity or natural gas or whatever, is being used then the Source Variable in UtilityCost:Charge:Simple is usually TotalEnergy and the Category Variable Name is EnergyCharges. The options for these are explained in the InputOutputReference starting in Group Economics and specifically on the Conceptual Framework and UtilityCost:Charge:Simple.

Another great source of information is to look at the examples in

C:\EnergyPlusV22-2-0\ExampleFiles\5ZoneEconomicsTariffAndLifeCycleCosts.idf

and their description in the InputOutputReference for tariff examples.
