For instance, let us say i want the HVAC to go on when the zonal temperature falls below a temperature(20C) and subsequently go off when the zonal temperature reaches a specific temperature(say 30C) for a 24hour period. Is it possible to do this in energyplus? I want to be able to visualize the heating cycle when the HVAC is on and the cooling cycle when the HVAC is off.

What software are you using? If EnergyPlus, look into the thermostat objects.
