New issues creating custom options in BEopt

I have been having issues with BEopt creating custom options (for example Window Areas). When I try to edit an option I get an error stating "Your changes could not be saved due to a system error. Please report the problem to the BEopt development team". I've tried on another computer and ran into the same issue. When I last used the program a few weeks ago this was working fine. Is anyone else encountering issues?

Not sure if this is related, but the EPW Downloader for weather files doesn't seem to be working either.

Are you trying to create a Finished Basement option? If so, that's a known bug. See this Unmet Hours post.

And the EPW Downloader no longer works because the EnergyPlus team changed the URLs for all of the weather files (and the old URLs don't forward to the new URLs).

Thanks for the answer. I was trying to create a Hot Water Fixtures option, but the issue reoccurred when I tried editing Window Areas as well. Seems as though it is only happening on one computer though, so it may be my specific configuration, I will try to reinstall. I thought it was on both because the EPW wasn't working on either but that makes sense now. Is manually copying the EPW file into the BEopt program files now the only way to add weather data to a file?

Regarding EPWs, I think you could open the C:\Program Files (x86)\NREL\BEopt_2.8.0\Data\EPWs.csv file and replace all "https://energyplus.net/weather-download" with "https://energyplus-weather.s3.amazona...". I haven't tested it, but I assume then it should work in BEopt.

I will give that a try. Thanks again

The proposed workaround to fetch EPWs does not work. The Amazon bucket reports 403 Forbidden / Access Denied.

Also, rather than hoping users find this thread and manually patch things, energyplus.net could redirect the old location (https://energyplus.net/weather-download) to the new repository rather than https://energyplus.net/ (which is probably currently being done via a generic handler for unknown files in the server config); barring a long awaited bug-fix release of BEopt that is.

I'm looking at it a little closer and it turns out that the EnergyPlus team more substantially changed the URLs than just where the files were located, so indeed my suggestion above won't work. Sorry. You'll have to manually download the EPW(s) of interest from the EnergyPlus website and save them into your weather directory (which can be found under Tools > Settings).
