I was wondering if you could export your SketchUp model to gbxml format.

  1. Can you use OpenStudio SketchUp to do that?
  2. Has anybody have any experience with gModeller? I installed it but it doesn't work for me.

Any help is appreciated.

OpenStudio can import or export gbXML. You can do this from the OpenStudio SketchUp plugin using the "plugins" menu under "OpenStudio/Import" and "OpenStudio/Export". The stand alone OpenStudio application also offers this from the file menu.

Currently the feature set is generally focused on handling geometry, but it can be expanded over time. Here is a link to webinar that demonstrates both the import and export. It starts in AutoDesk Vasari, goes through OpenStudio, and then to Trane Trace.

gbxml.org webinar The OpenStudio section begins around 15 minute mark.

Thanks for your comment. My purpose was to draw a model in SketchUp and export it to DesignBuilder and Trace as gbxml. I created a very simple box with one thermal zone in SketchUp OpenStudio Plug in and followed your instructions. In DesignBuilder, all surfaces except for the window were exported successfully. But the big problem is that the Thermal Zone is not recognized and walls are separate external walls. In Trace, I was successful to export the model from SketchUp. Do you know any solution for exporting to DesignBuilder? I appreciate your help in advance. Ladan

For me has worked better to use the version 1.5 of open studio plug-in together with sketchup. The older version 1.4 has a bug that does not calculate floor space areas, only roof areas. This bug has been fixed with version 1.5.

Space area was added to the gbXML export in OpenStudio 1.5.0 at the request of Trane TRACE users. This seems related to your question here: https://unmethours.com/question/568/l...

Thank you very much for your help. I'll try version 1.5 and see how it works.
