Open Studio Antiquated Password Requirements?

Are there any plans to remove these password requirements? In addition to following outdated rules (variability in character type rather than just length, requirements for changing passwords too frequently, etc), it's just a bit annoying because it's not exactly holding secure information (I assume one benefit of the .net instead of a .gov site). My banks don't even have requirements like this, and it's honestly a barrier of use for me because for various reasons I have to reinstall frequently. It's also a bit ironic given that the installer apparently has some issue and Windows Defender tries to stop it every time.

Which installer is given you a Windows Defender warning? The OpenStudio SDK shouldn't.

The OpenStudioApplication installer, managed by the openstudiocoalition, should, since the installer isn't signed (TL;DR: signing the binary is both complex and expensive)

I'm not aware of any plans to change login requirements for https://www.openstudio.net/, although BCL soon won't require a key, so you wont' need a BCL account.

For the OpenStudio SDK and the Parametric Analysis Tool, you can download direct from Github.com if you don't want to login to OpenStudio.net. Documentation and developer resources don't require a login.

David, is there any chance in requesting the team consider it (or is it something passed down from above and is basically unchangeable)? I can understand wanting some sort of login to track downloads and usage, but as Open Studio becomes more and more embedded in required software (CBECC-Com as the biggest example I can think of) the application and SketchUp plugin become more critical for a lot of people and any reduction in complexity for download is always appreciated.

@bbrannon4, similar to the core SDK and PAT being on NREL's GitHub, the OpenStudio Coalition, who now develops and maintains the OpenStudio Application and the SketchUp Plugin also distribute that via a public GitHub.com page. I just put this here since you mentioned the Application SketchUp plugin so you know where the most current versions are.

FWIW, nothing is dictated by DOE.

@bbrannon4 I did find out that similar to the BCL website, we will not require any login for OpenStudio.net I'm not sure of the timeframe for that change, but my best guess might be by the end of September.
