How to become a licensed OpenStudio modeler?
Hello I am wondering what sort of licensing or certification are needed to become an accredited energy modeler.
Your post title mentions OpenStudio specifically, which I do not know of certifications for that specific tool. However, there are ways to achieve certification in general energy modeling practices, which you can certainly apply to OpenStudio projects.
General energy modeling certification
While not resulting in a license or certification for OpenStudio, there are multiple options for you to receive training.
OpenStudio training providers
There are also options for you to teach yourself how to use OpenStudio.
Teach yourself how to use OpenStudio
@m.habib there is not a license or certification for EnergyPlus modelers specifically that I am aware of.
The BEMP and BESA certifications apply to EnergyPlus modeling (or any simulation tool).
The training providers and "teach yourself" resources are a little different. For example, GARD Analytics offers EnergyPlus training but not OpenStudio training.
There are some updated OpenStudio tutorial videos here. These were created when the App was separated from NREL.
I would add that the real power of OpenStudio specifically is in editing/creating measures to automate and standardize various aspects of modeling. To learn more about measure writing you can check here. And if you really get into measure writing then you'll need to keep the SDK documentation handy as a resource.
