Can't open EP launch 9-4-0 from Windows Start Menu
Hello, When I click on EP launch from the Windows (64 bit) Start menu, I get the spinning blue circle for a couple of seconds and then nothing happens. The same thing happens when I try to open the .exe file directly from the program folder.
I had my colleague install the program as well, and he is getting the same issue.
Any ideas what might be going on?
Thanks.
Hello, anyone from the E+ team able to help with this installation issue? Thanks!
Do you have 63 files (mostly .dll and .pyd) in the directly with EP_Launch.exe? Do you have a subdirectly called eplaunch under that that contains .py files and has directories under it that contain other .py files and other files?
Hi Jason, This is what I have in the program folder, see image link. I don't see a subfolder called EPlaunch. https://ibb.co/nLZ7d8x
Sorry, you are talking about EP Launch that comes with EnergyPlus 9.4.0, I was thinking you were talking about a newer version that is cross platform.
Have you used EP-Launch in the past successfully with an earlier version of EnergyPlus?
Have you tried this?
Yes, EP-launch works with v9.2. I can give that a try, will report back.
So I tried redirecting the missing file and I am still unable to open EP-launch in v9.4. Same issue as before, no error message, just nothing happens. I downloaded v9.3 and am able to open EP-launch there...any other suggestions?
Try copying the copy from v9.3 into the 9.4 directory and try it there (you might want to rename the one in 9.4 first to ep-launch-old.exe)
this worked!! thanks. any ideas what happened?
I would guess the file for EP-Launch for 9.4 was somehow corrupted when you installed it.
@JasonGlazer Three of my coworkers are having the same problem. Two coworkers installed E+ 9.4 in Dec and EP-Launch won't launch. Then a third coworker this month, who has never had E+ installed on his laptop, installed E+ 9.4 with the same problem. I have a functioning 9.4 installation, but I installed shortly after version 9.4 was released. All Windows 10 laptops.
I will try your solution and see how it goes.
Sounds like something in the installer for 9.4 is not working with the security settings for your company. Let me know if copying an old version of EP-Launch works.
@JasonGlazer I tried having my coworkers copy my functioning EP-Launch 9.4 into their 9.4 installation directory, but that didn't work. Then one of my coworkers copied an EP-Launch from 9.2 into their 9.4 installation directory and that worked.
I don't know if my organization, UC Davis, is responsible, but I have had trouble with Windows Defender automatically removing files from the E+ installation directory. I had to tell Windows Defender that the E+ folder was safe. That usually only happens right after a new release though, not months after.
