Hello,

I am running a DOE large office reference building model in EnergyPlus, and I would like to evaluate as outputs the total, sensible and latent space cooling load in the whole building.

I know that I can analyse this with Ideal HVAC objects: ZoneHVACIdealLoadsSystem and reporting the variables:

  • Zone Ideal Loads Zone Sensible Cooling Rate [W]
  • Zone Ideal Loads Zone Latent Cooling Rate [W]
  • Zone Ideal Loads Zone Total Cooling Rate [W]

However, the DOE reference model has a specific HVAC system.

My questions are:

  1. Which variable could give me the total cooling load in the building?
  2. How can I report this load with the current DOE reference HVAC system?

I have been analysing the following variables in the summary report:

  • HVAC Input Sensible Air Cooling
  • Cooling:EnergyTransfer
  • CoolingCoils:EnergyTransfer

Is the CoolingCoil:Transfer variable equivalent to the total cooling load?

You can use the Facility Component Summary from the Output: Table section to se the total cooling/heating load.

Thanks! I haven't came across this report before. Indeed it gives me the total, sensible and latent load, but only for the Peak load.

The results given report to the first of July. Why is this? is this a design day condition?

What are the EnergyPlus variables that correspond to the metrics in this report (latent, sensible and total load)?
