How can I model a water to water heat pump between a solar collector and water heater.

Is there any example file from energyplus? In addition of the documentation, as I went through it but is not clear to me the steps.

Note: This model is a special case as usually water to water heat pumps are made to perform with ground source heat exchangers.

Update

Hi, Thanks your response!

I have exactly done what you suggested. In this case I decided to connect the wwhp between the solar collectors and water heater (E_Schematic). The diagram, and the idfile is also attached in this email. However, I am getting an error that I cannot figure out. I do not know why it is requesting me or providing me an error of placing a pump at each plant loop. I am trying to avoid the heatExchanger, but if it is required to finish the modelling I will do so.

Please, any suggestions?

Thanks,

If you provide a schematic naming the EnergyPlus components, including loops and nodes, I will better be able to help you with this. From the images provided, I cannot tell what you are having trouble with.

Also, the HeatExchanger object is very easy to implement.

One of the challenges of attaching a water to water heat pump to a solar hot water collector is that currently (Version 8.3.3) the water to water heat pump will only accept a CondenserLoop on the source source side. See this thread on GitHub:

https://github.com/NREL/EnergyPlus/is...

I've been able to mitigate this issue by creative use of the HeatExchanger:FluidToFluid object. You could probably connect your water to water heat pump to the solar connector by putting a heat exchanger just after the solar collector and on the solar collector branch. Put the other side of the heat exchanger just before the water to water heat pump and on the same branch.

Hey @kwalkerman I am currently doing the same modelling and I would like to provide the schematic diagram of the system. And I had a look of the question you posted in the github, it seems that only condenserLoop is accepted at the source side rather and a PlantLoop which in this case is the Solar collector PlantLoop. I could not sand any pic via comment. May I have your email to send you the schematic diagram? Thanks
