Hello everybody,

I built my model with SketchUp and after creating the .idf file and opening it in E+, I realized that many constructions and materials were already there. I created my own anyways and didn't use any of the existing ones, which then generated some warnings but no severe errors. The problem is that I want to use the ConductionFiniteDifference heat balance algorithm, since I have included PCMs in some of my constructions. When selecting this algorithm, I get the severe error shown below even though I'm not using the material METAL DECKING at all. This is one of the materials that was transferred from SketchUp.

* Severe * InitialInitHeatBalFiniteDiff: Found Material that is too thin and/or too highly conductive, material name = METAL DECKING * ~~~ * High conductivity Material layers are not well supported by Conduction Finite Difference, material conductivity = 45.006 [W/m-K] * ~~~ * Material thermal diffusivity = 1.401E-005 [m2/s] * ~~~ * Material with this thermal diffusivity should have thickness > 8.69672E-002 [m] * ~~~ * Material may be too thin to be modeled well, thickness = 1.50000E-003 [m] * ~~~ * Material with this thermal diffusivity should have thickness > 3.00000E-003 [m]

then I tried to delete this material and the constructions associated with it, but then the program crashes completely, without even generating error messages. Same happens when changing its conductivity from 45.006 to 5.00 W/m-K, just wanted to try that out.

I really don`t understand why deleting unused constructions and materials would make the program crash like that. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers, Juanita

I can try to help. Please send me your files before and after you deleted the constructions and materials. jglazer at gard dot com.
