If I understand your question, you want to import a floorplan into SketchUp to use as a guide to layout spaces and thermal zones? The OpenStudio plugin for SketchUp does not recognize SketchUp objects until they are migrated into an OpenStudio object (such as a space, shading surface group, or intertior partition group). Therefore you need to first create a new space, double-click to edit the space, then paste the floorplan into that space.

Thank you. To clarify a bit, I created separate Sketchup files that contain the thermal zones for each floor of a multistory building. I wanted to take floor 2 file and paste it into floor 1 and have the surfaces of all of the zones intersect. However, since I am unable to click into all the thermal zones on floor 1, floor 2 does not appear in the Openstudio model. Any ideas?

How are you pasting the floor 2 file into floor 1? Have you tried using the "Import EnergyPlus IDF" button to import floor 2 into the floor 1 file? You would need to export the idf from floor 2 file first.

Hello, I was able to get this to work by using the Openstudio extension "Merge Spaces from External File". The "Import EnergyPlus IDF" button ended up closing the current model and opening the imported one.
