All; In reviewing a slide on the 'Energy Modeling Ecosystem', that has been a part of several Open Studio presentation, there is a graphic on the lower left at about 8Pm on a clock for CBECC-Com. I also reviewed the Open Studio release notes for both Current and Planned features. There is even a tutorial on how to export a SDD file which can be imported to CBECC-com. While this is another possible workflow avenue, has there been any discussion about developing OS to run CBECC-com natively, to demonstration compliance? Have others had success with the import/export process and compliance documentation? I would be curious to hear other's experiences with this workflow and issues they have faced. Thanks in advance for the discussion.

OpenStudio can export an SDD file which can be imported into CBECC-Com. However, the current export still requires significant data re-entry using CBECC-Com. There are plans to improve the SDD export from OpenStudio to reduce the amount of data re-entry in CBECC-Com. The first improvement of this export was the introduction of a CBECC material template OSM. If you use these materials in your OSM they will be exported in your SDD file, here is a tutorial. We plan to continue improving the export by supporting space types and HVAC in future releases.

There is also a web tool under development that provides an interface to do Title24 analysis using the simplified geometry approach. However, I'm not sure what the release schedule for that is. I'll let @ljbrackney chime in about that.

@macumber - thanks for the information. I had seen the tutorial and that's part of what spurred me along to ask. I haven't experienced anything yet dealing with CBECC-com that works smoothly and out of the box without some major reworking and pain. I'm very interested in testing out the OS/CBECC-com work flow and the materials/construction assignments. The ability to work in Open Studio, then export/import to CBECC-com may prove a valuable option as we determine the best workflow for compliance modeling projects in CA.

Per Dan's comment, the OpenStudio team has been working on a streamlined, web-based workflow for Title 24 compliance using simplified geometry.

The tool is 99% done, and needs just a few tweaks before we can announce it publicly. That will hopefully happen in the next week or two. In the interim, you can read all about it here.

One important comment about this web service: NREL and DOE do NOT intend to host this as a free service for any appreciable length of time. Our intent is to make all of the source code available via GitHub so that third parties can customize, extend, and host their own instances - for free, via subscription, etc.
