Hi. I am trying to model a condo building on eQuest where each suite has a water source heat pump connected to a central loop with boilers and a cooling tower to maintain the loop temperature.

So I have set up a central WLHP water loop with a boiler and a fluid cooler, and for all the suites I've assigned "Water Loop HP" as the system type and selected the WLHP loop as the condenser loop.

The problem is my heating energy use on the report is way too low. When I dug into the reports I'm finding out that for whatever reason, while the loads of the actual spaces are calculated, there's no HVAC heating use at all. LS-A shows the space peak loads, but the boiler for this loop in PS-C show no usage, and the Circulation Loop in PS-D show no heating usage (but it does show cooling usage). Another thing that's worrying is the % of hours outside throttling range is 99.99%.

Does anyone know what I should be looking at to fix this?

Thanks.

-John

Same problem, have you found the solution?

Try changing the operation in the circulation loop to "scheduled" and adding a cooling and heating schedule to it. Leaving it on standby can prevent the boiler from coming on as the cooling keeps running. I guess it's not smart enough to prompt you to enter a heating/cooling schedule when you define it in the wizard mode.

I would start by making some hourly reports for the system heating variables to try and track down why your heating energy is so low. Is the system cycling on for heating? Does the loop just not have enough heat because the boiler isn't turning on? Maybe that will at least give you some direction. You could also reference the underlying code in the old DOE2.1E Engineer's Manual. http://doe2.com/download/doe-21e/
