I am setting two models without HVAC system (residential and office). I am using the ideal air load.

  • In your opinion, which is the proper value of space infiltration (in term of ACH) I have to use?
  • With ideal loads is there already mechanical ventilation?
  • Do I have to consider a combination between mechanical ventilation and infiltration?

I believe that DesignFlowRates can be defined independently of the IdealAirLoads system. The IdealAirLoads system is driven by thermostats and should take into account any infiltration that occurs.

Infiltration varies significantly among buildings and time. PNNL report PNNL-18898, Infiltration Modeling Guidelines for Commercial Building Energy Analysis (pdf), is a good reference.
