HVAC Templates to be Discontinued?
I just saw in a few notes from a talk at BS 2017 that there are no plans to bring the HVAC Templates into the JSON version of E+, which means it will be gone by ~V10 when IDF files have been removed. Is this correct, and if so, are there any suggestions for alternative ways of quickly setting up the structure and nodes for a HVAC system? I just don't want to jump into it and reinvent the wheel if something else exists. I did see in the eppy notes that a replacement is being considered.
A talk by ... me? Two things about that "announcement" and others of its kind. First, EnergyPlus 10.0.0 is not coming for a while. Yes, we used to increment major version number every year, X.0 in the spring, X.1 in the fall. But we stopped that a while ago and it took five years to go from 8.0 to 9.0. It will take similarly long to get to 10.0. Second, with timelines of that length, things will change. And we don't plan on pulling rugs out on people with no alternatives. At least when it comes to EnergyPlus.
This may be in reference to this presentation and this eppy issue. I will say that after that talk, much of the feedback we received was about this concern.
Yes @JasonGlazer, that is what I was referencing. I'm not too concerned with the version numbering or timeline, just curious if I should start thinking about an alternative way to automate the structure of systems, or if it will likely be brought into the development.
OpenStudio Measures? Modelkit templates?
Yes, those are probably the best mainstream options at the moment. So am I interpreting from your comments correctly that HVACTemplates will be gone once IDFs are?
