Does anyone know of a tutorial for how to add utility rates to an OpenStudio model using the Xcel Energy Tariffs? I'm not sure how to use this measure other than selecting the default tariffs, and unfortunately I will need to change the rates to match the rates used on the project...

Using the measures tab in the OpenStudio application or in PAT make a copy of the measure from the BCL. The copy should be in your "My Measures" directory. The "resources" directly within the measure folder contains a series of IDF files. You can alter existing get or add new files to expose more options for the measure. The choice list in the measure is dynamically generated from these files.

Thanks David. I've begun using this measure, but I'm wondering:

  1. Where the output is placed? and
  2. How to structure tiered rates? - I see the UtilityCost:Computation, but the instruction is: "Field Description: Contain a simple language that describes the steps used in the computation process similar to a programming language".

I'm just wondering if there is a recorded process for these?

Just an update for anyone interested in the process - you can add block charges under UtilityCostCharge:Block (makes sense). One more question though - how do you link the output from OpenStudio with this measure? I can't find tariffs in the OpenStudio results at all.

@david-goldwasser I tried to open the commercial.idf in idf editor which gave me version error. but the IDf updater is not able to update the file says the transitions was not found. 8.1.0 to 8.1.0. which is same. What could be wrong?

@rkbest. do you have any issues if you try to open the IDF in EnergyPlus 8.3 .It may be that it uses newer EnergyPlus objects? Also there is a new generic tariff measure documented here. You can just drop your own tariff idf snippets in the "resources" directory to use them.
