How to model air free cooling in openstudio?

asked 7 years ago

I'm not really familiair with all the HVAC options and I'm not sure what settings should be set manually or autoscaled. I'm trying to model a micro data room which uses direct air free cooling. Heating is currently done with an electric coil heater. Could anyone help me with how to model this?

Since this is a data room, I'm going to assume that by "free cooling" you mean it has an economizer, and not that it uses natural ventilation. You could start with an HVACTemplate- maybe a Unitary system depending on what you are looking for. If you have no DX cooling, you can specify the cooling coil type as "none", but still specify economizer operation. Reference the HVACTemplate-5ZoneUnitarySystemin the "ExampleFiles" folder of your EnergyPlus installation.

Or you could look at the "2ZoneDataCenterHVAC_wEconomizer" example file.

The type of cooling I'm referring to is this one https://www.systemair.com/na/north-am..., except that it's attached to a wall directly located in the data room. The data room is relatively small, I'm talking about 10-20 towers. How do I reference to one of the systems from EnergyPlus?

Thanks for your reply and consideration.
