gbXML import into OpenStudio

I wander, there is a gbXML import function in the feature list for OpenStudio which states that not only geometry but also constructions and schedules can be imported into OS. But I cannot import any schedule or construction with material properties from Revit's gbXMLs. Why?

@Dinosaver can you post any gbXML snippets showing the construction and schedule elements that are in your gbXML but not imported into OpenStudio?

Thanks @Dinosaver. I imported this into OpenStudio 1.6.0 and saw a few things. Constructions for surfaces did seem to be imported. However, WindowType elements were not imported so windows do not have constructions. Does that match what you are seeing?

As for schedules, these are imported into OpenStudio as ScheduleYear objects. However, some places in the OpenStudio application don't show ScheduleYear objects (e.g. for pulling a schedule onto a light for instance). Does that match what you are seeing?

This is a really good example of a complete gbXML file, I'll use this for improving our gbXML import.

Moreover, all materials are "no mass" although original gbXML contains all data. Zone setpoints and OA are not imported either. I believe it would be useful to assign Ideal Loads system to any zone in gbXML by default as soon as it contains setpoints and OA to make imported file ready for simulation.

There is a group at CBEI working on IFC import into OpenStudio via BIMServer. You might post another question to ask about that.

It's been quite a long time since I asked this question and not to double the topic I would like to repeat it: -what are import capabilities of OS from gbXML in terms of material properties, constructions, set point temperatures?

All these data are explicitly presented in gbXML schema and files exported e.g. from Revit, it would be great to see them in OS. IFC import in 1.9 version works quite well, except some surfaces are missed, but again, as soon as we import surfaces why we don't capture their properties? As soon as we import spaces why not zones as well? Look forward to these features along with gbXML import improvements.

Thanks for revisiting this @Dinosaver, we do try to document what is covered by the import here. However, you are right that not much has been added since you last asked, here is a list of open issues. We are trying to use the uservoice site to gauge interest from users and prioritize new features. Can you add an idea there and vote on it?

Also, the CBEI team will be working to improve the IFC import into OpenStudio in the next year, I will ask them to provide some details of their planned work.
