Hi, I am trying to see the impact of ice storage. I added a ice storage in the chiller loop supply side, in parrallel to chiller. However, when I re run the model, it does not chagne the results compared to without ice storage. Is there any control I need to implement? Thanksimage description

I added a screenshot. I tried to put the ice storage in parrallel or in downstream of chiller but either case the results is the same as without ice storage. I wonder if there is anything else I need to put in there, such as setpoint

Dear @hj630 , I am working on a similar project with academic goals. Can you share your experience with Ice storage modeling with me?

I don't have much experience with ice storage in OS, but there are quite a few posts on this site for ice storage in both OS/EP. It may be helpful to insert a screenshot of your ice storage object in OS with the ice tank highlighted so all settings can be seen and people can comment/provide suggestions.

thanks for your suggestions. I added it. I have read all the thread, a few are having the same problem as mine and have no solution.

Aha - most examples I see have the ice storage in parallel; you have it in series here. Unless control is setup properly, flow always goes through the chiller. Try adding in parallel.

I tried the parrallel way too, do I just put the ice storage under the chiller? Or I added another chiller in parallel to the existing chiller and but the ice storage downstream? I see the E+ example file did it this way and only let one chiller one at the same time to represent one chiller with two chiller modeled.

I think you want one chiller and one tank, in parallel. Also - what are the units of tank capacity? Maybe its too small?

I tried similar configuration with the E+ example file but the openstudio just wont turn on the ice storage. I put a CHW setpoint manager right after the chiller to make it produce low temp CHW (w/ glycol)to charge ice storage but it ignore the setpoint manager..
