Question of Models created by "Create DOE Prototype Building"

asked 7 years ago

updated 7 years ago

"Create DOE Prototype Building", a measure in OpenStudio, provides a lot of prototype building models. Whether the models developed by template, "DOE Ref Pre-1980" and "DOE Ref 1980-2004", are the same as DOE's Commercial Reference Building Models ("pre-1980" and "post-1980)? Also, whether the models developed by template, "90.1-2004", "90.1-2007", "90.1-2010" and "90.1-2013" are the same as DOE's Commercial Prototype Building Models (different ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1)? Thanks.

The intent is that the DOE Prototype Measure would produce the reference buildings for future 90.1 code determination analyses. That said, while they are very close to the current reference models, they are not identical. e.g. differences in control strategy introduce some error. The team at PNNL is working to refine the Measure to bring them into closer alignment. Regression analysis between the Reference models and Prototype Measure output is part of the Standards Gem Continuous Integration (CI) process, but I don't recall where those results are regularly posted or summarized.
