Has anyone modeled the energy savings supposedly gained by pressure independent control valves?

Supposedly the temperature differential is better (larger) maintained, which would reduce pump energy and has an impact on chiller performance as well.

The only thing I can think of is to use a different temperature differential set point for the loop, but the difference would be a guess (2-3 degrees Fahrenheit)

This link was sent to me today that may help answer this question.

Belimo has this tool for eQUEST and TRACE. Haven't tested it yet, but it's worth a try.

If anyone uses it, please post your experiences here.

That's a tough one! I specialized in PICV valves for years and my two-cents worth is, since PICV valves are a dynamic valve meaning they adjust all the time automatically and loads change from minute to minute and day to day, it's almost impossible to do an honest assessment and/or a accurate test. With that said, anybody who says they don't do any good and claims they don’t save money through reduced pump loads or improved delta T's, is not educated enough in this field. PICV Valves do create better Delta T's and do reduce pump loads through faster, better system water balancing when VFD's are properly utilized. I am no longer directly involved with PICV valves, so I have nothing to gain here. PICV Valves work and save money! Check out YouTube.com/PICV Valves
