I have a multifamily building built on a podium over retail. I am not modelling the retail energy use but I would like to make the retail space conditioned so as not to negatively affect the HVAC loads in the units touching the retail. How would I go about doing this?
Set the retail thermal zones to be conditioned by ideal air loads, and then ignore the district heating and district cooling energy use in your model outputs. This is assuming you aren't using ideal loads for other zones in your model and that you aren't using a district source for other heating/cooling in your building. (EDIT): Another option is to set the surfaces between the retail and residential spaces as adiabatic
I would recommend setting the surfaces between the retail and residential spaces as adiabatic as mentioned above. This is a much easier solution.
If you use adiabatic boundary just make sure you hard assign a construction, since it won't inherit from construction set. Some scripts and measures that assign adiabatic boundary condition may do this for you.
