Recently, I used EnergyPlus to model a general building with a variable speed cooling tower. And I select CoolingTowerPerformance:CoolTools as the model type in the baseline model. Actually, we would like to replace that cooling tower with a new one which has a better heat transfer performance in reality as an ECM. So I need to model the ECM model by using another performance curve to increase the heat transfer. I read the definition of that curve in the document, which is using several parameters to determine the approach temperature. That means all the coefficient values are related to a lot of variables. So I have no idea what should I do to only increase the heat transfer performance. Does anyone did the similar changes before. That'll be super helpful! Thanks!

The variable speed tower curves model a sort of scaleable shape of the thermal performance and not the effectiveness of the tower. Generally, you only want your own curve if you're modeling a piece of technology that's not a traditional cross or counterflow cooling tower. To alter the heat transfer capabilities of the tower, you need to change the design approach temperature. For example, a tower with a design approach of 5F will provide more heat transfer than a tower with a design approach of 7F.
