Why modeling PCM is not supported in OpenStudio?

asked 8 years ago

Is there any specific reason that there is no phase change material (PCM) either in BCL or any other library in OpenStudio?

Doesn't OpenStudio support modelling the PCMs at all? Because EnergyPlus is capable of doing so and I'm not sure why it is not integrated within the OpenStudio.

Thanks!

It's unrealistic to expose every feature of an underlying engine during an initial UI release. Features are added throughout the development process largely based on their frequency of use by the average user. I don't believe PCMs are a high priority due to their low frequency of use. You can view planned features here and suggest features here. You can always write your own EnergyPlus measure to add MaterialProperty:PhaseChange fairly easily to an existing material in your model.

That's true. I see now. I guess most of the UIs with E+ as the simulation engine that also support PCM are mostly focused on energy retrofit. That's maybe why OS doesn't support it yet.

Thanks a lot for your reply!
