I have created the geometry of a building in SketchUp with roof, windows, interior doors and walls. Now I am ready to assign attributes and characteristics (material properties, thermal zones, etc...) to the building in preparation for OpenStudio features such as schedules and HVAC systems. However, none of the tutorial videos I have seen cover this.

Can I just label (for example) a wall "shop north, and OpenStudio will know the wall I want to change its construction layer? How do I let SketchUp or OpenStudio know that a certain area is meant to be (for example) a conference room?

You need to create the geometry inside of the OpenStudio Plugin. Watch the tutorial geometry tutorial again.

I watched the tutorial and used the "Create SketchUp Groups from Diagram" feature, but now I can only create box-shaped spaces. How do I create spaces with varied geometry or ceiling heights/grades?
