campus wide building energy modeling

Is the best solution or best approach available to performing campus wide building energy modeling through the use of the MLE+ toolbox? What are other approaches others have found to successfully model campus wide building energy?

We've successfully used MLE+ to co-simulate multiple E+ building models, a central plant, site photovoltaics, electric vehicles, and the distribution system for the NREL campus. Our campus model runs in non-realtime, as well as in real-time using OpalRT. We have packaged and documented this for our own internal use, but have not yet made it publicly available. If there's interest, I will prod the curator (Steve Frank) to do so.

Update - I've pinged Steve, and he's working to get this done. Here is an architecture diagram of the system:

Thanks for being willing to share the approach your group is taking to model campus wide building energy. Do you know of any other efforts similar to this or any other packages that take a stab at being able to do this type of simulation?

So this took a while to get through all the required approvals, etc., but the Campus Energy Modeling platform is now publicly available under the LGPL. The repository is here:

No, not really. Following this release, we pivoted our campus modeling work to develop a tool chain that did not require proprietary tools (i.e. MATLAB). The result is URBANopt. See: https://www.nrel.gov/buildings/urbano.... As a result of this pivot, we did not put further effort into developing or maintaining the Campus Energy Modeling Simulink library/toolchain.
