Dear All, While modelling a building, I get error for doors. These doors are automatically created while doing surface matching and intersecting. This generates a lot of errors.

Also, there are other errors for degenerate surfaces. I am pretty sure these surfaces are also created from surface matching/intersect. Please note, I always save my model in openstudio (.osm) not in .skp, in fact I have disable the autosave option of sketchup as well.

Any idea how to fix these issues? I have modelled my building so times but still get these errors.

Thanks in advance.

Kindest Regards Waseem

Try using the surface matching and intersecting measure in the stand alone application instead of the SketchUp plugin. Ideally with a clean copy of your model. We have updated it to do base surface intersections. It won't create new subsurface.

Keep in mind that if you do intend to have interior subsurfaces, OpenStudio won't find surface match unless the subsurface exists in both surfaces.

Hi David, Thanks for the reply. Just a quick question before I apply this, Don't know if I fully understood your subsurface point. e.g. If my building has a room with a door that open into a corridor. The room and corridor are two separate zones, then how your comment fit into this situation? I have to draw door in both zones (corridor and room)? Thanks Kindest Regards Waseem

I also have the same question, anybody who is aware please answer it.

@Mors, if you want to intersect interior doors or windows then you would have to use the SketchUp plugin's surface matching dialog, see defining conditions for heat transfer through surafces in the OpenStudio documentation.. If you only want to intersect base surfaces, then the surface matching measure will work.

Thank you David. I may have solved my issue. As I understand from what you are saying and what I tried, I need to use the "Intersect and Divide Inter-Zone Subsurfaces" in order to intersect internal subsurfaces between openstudio spaces, after I use the surface matching tool to match the base surfaces. I will report back if I have any additional issues. Best regards.
