CoolTools Counterflow Cooling Tower Model

asked 2015-11-25 10:49:01 -0500

Does anyone know where I can find the coefficients for the CoolTools counterflow cooling tower model? The original paper by Benton et al. mentions that two different curves were generated for both crossflow and counterflow configurations, but it appears that only the crossflow coefficients made their way into EnergyPlus.

I will show you a comment that still lingers in the code today.

// CoolTools counterflow model does not work properly. The empirical model seems flawed
// since the tower operates in the free convection regime on the design day.

I recall when this model was implemented. It was never determined if the implementation was incorrect or if the original model had flaws. I could probably track down the coefficients, but they would do no good since the simulation would result in warnings and errors.

@aaron - I'm a bit late but I found the CoolTools simulation tool code documentation which includes the coefficients. Rename the extension from jpg to doc: Simulation Tool Code. I assume the coefficients are for temperatures in deg. F.
