How to remove solar water heater from Title 24 Calcs

asked 2015-09-01 09:53:03 -0600

I am working on a project that is pursuing Title 24 2013 and I'm using CBECC-Com 2013-3b. The reviewer indicated that since the project is pursuing the solar ready path instead of installing solar water heaters, that solar water heater needs to be removed from Title 24 calculations.

Does anyone know how to do this? Alternatively, do I have to export to EnergyPlus to make this change?

In CBECC-Com if you double click on a the fluid system you have designated for service hot water you will see that there is an input for 'Annual Solar Fraction', which should be a verified solar fraction calculation. What this input will do is take the Title 24 SHW peak flow rate per zone and remove the specified percentage from it - compare the 'Peak Flow Rate' of the 'WaterUse:Equipment' object in the IDF that is generated for the baseline and proposed and you will see the difference. You don't need to use EnergyPlus natively to remove this, you just have to set the 'Annual Solar Fraction' field to 0.

Thanks, I just checked and the annual solar fraction is already set to 0.0. I wonder what the reviewer is referring to then?

There are a few reporting fields that may be showing it has solar hot water. I would double click the project tab and see if form 2 has 'Solar Thermal Water Heating' set to 'Yes' rather than NA, and then browse through the rest of the model to check for other reporting fields.
